Learning outcomes of the course unit: Comprehension skills and intermediate level of oral and written expression in English. The students’ results allow them to deal with the most common personal and professional situations. Their acquired lexicon is vast enough to hold non-specialized conversations. By the end of the course, they will have acquired a B1 level, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Language.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face, distance learning):

Face-to-face lectures (80 hours). Home learning.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

In order to successfully attend the course, students should properly manage the basic language structures. Their vocabulary should include, at least, the most common terms. Students start with a A2 English level.

Course contents: The course aims at developing the main linguistic skills: oral and written comprehension (listening and reading), oral and written expression (speaking and writing).

The course emphasises the study of grammar. In particular, basic morphological, grammatical and sintactic aspects are spotlighted, as well as the improvement of lexicon.

Expression skills and communicative competence will be enhanced.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods:

English Language structures will be taught through exercises, either during the lessons or at home.

The lexicon will be enhanced through the analysis of specialized texts – news, didactics, technology, history, etc. In this manner, pronounciation will be improved, as well as text comprehension and oral expression.

Assessment methods and criteria:

Written multiple choice test (2 hours):

1. Test written expression
2. Comprehension test
3. Grammar and lexical test (about 20 questions)

Oral test (about 15 minutes):

1. Comprehension test

2. Expression and interaction test

Continuous evaluation will contribute to final evaluation.
